Element Arts Company teach, perform and hold Afro-Latin events in the UK and further afield with an interest in promoting and advancing Latin Dance Theatre.

Contemporary, B-Girl and dancing Salsa and Samba for over fifteen years, Ella Mesma established Element Arts Latin Dance and Education Company in 2007, and curates Latin Dance Theatre festival Roots of Rumba in London.

Element Arts specialise in the following Styles:

  • Salsa: A beautiful partner dance from New York, Cuba, Puerto Rico. To read more about Salsa click here.
  • Samba: A soloist carnival dance from Brazil, with feathers sequins, hips and fast feet). To read more about Samba click here.

  • Afro-Cubanincluding the Orisha dances of Santeria Gods, each with their own dance, element, character. These originated from Africa and the religion of Yoruba.

  • Rumba: a fun flirtatious and confrontational dance. Cuban rumba can be broken down into three types – Guaguancó, Yambú and Columbia – each with its own music and moves.

  • Afro-Brazilian: including dances of the Orixás- each with a distinct music, dance, character, element. These originated from the African religion of Yoruba.

Company History & Accolades

In 2014 the Company established ‘Roots of Rumba’ a Latin Dance Theatre festival at Richmix. Roots of Rumba 2016 festival was a two day event. Artists were given time and space in the week running up to the festival with Dramaturgy Daniel Goldman (Casa International Festival) to develop their work to the highest standard. The event will also included workshops for the public and an afterparty.

Performances and Masterclasses have taken Element Arts to the USA (Boston and NYC), India (Chennai, Mombai, New Delhi), Cuba (Havana), Greece, Denmark, Spain, Serbia, Sweden, Croatia and Finland. In 2007, the Company won ‘Best Show’ for ‘Andar La Gata’ at the European Salsa Champions at Salsa UK. The Company have been finalists in 2014 and 2015 for Best Brazilian Teacher and Company with the Latin Lukas awards.

Element Arts have featured on Strictly Come Dancing, T4 (Channel 4) and have featured in music videos for TY, Franz Ferdinand, Submotion Orchestra, and performed for artists such as Major Lazer, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Drummagik, Heatwave. The Company have performed at Birmingham NEC, Trafalgar Square (National Peace Week), Royal Armories (Leeds), O2 Arena (London Latin Festival), Mambo City, Floridita, Scala and Big Dance to name a few. Clients have included Redbull, Sagatiba, Havana Club, Sadler’s Wells, O2 Arena, Wembley Stadium, HBOS and many more…
